I'm a full supporter of the idea! Although, perhaps instead of being animals attracted to these orbs/stones, I would love for the creatures to be embodiments of the stones. You could create vastly different and unique designs for all of them while keeping the round stone/orb as a core concept across all of them as a unifying idea. Oh and I wrote this in discord a little bit ago which would make for an amazing menu/journal system that integrates the "djinns" into the world:

I like the second initial idea! And I do think they should act like power-ups like the Djinn, class changes and all. They would allow the party to use the power of their stones as long as they get to keep it. Maybe the basic elemental "summon" would just be the animal running up to the enemy and smacking them with the stone.
But I don't like the book absorption thing. It's just a bit too weird, random and unneeded if you ask me.

I do really like this concept art and I think it should be used, especially the 2nd pitch. We could have a lot of potential things to make each Djinn differentiate: What animal they are, the shape of the orb they are in, color scheme, different kind of animal for their respective element, etc. I think the fire salamander Djinn would work, and while these are just ideas for now, if we were to make each element be all the same animal I'd say it'd be like this: Fire: Salamander Water: I'm thinking a Frog, maybe carrying the stone in its mouth Earth: Perhaps a Turtle with the stone embedded in its shell. Wind: A bird holding a stone in its talons. 'Course, these are just ideas. If cherry happens to see this, feel free to use my ideas for more concept art!

The classical elementals were the:
Salamander for Fire Sylph for Air Undine/Nymph for Water Gnome for Earth
We could expand these to other aspects - ex: Dryads for plants, Yukionna for Ice, etc.

I do like the frog and bird. Mixed on turtle, maybe there are better alternatives (meerkats?). But I don't like the Sylph, Nymph/Undine and Gnome. I personally think it should be animals.

In my opinion any kind of little mammal /rodent would be more representative of earth (since they live in their little burrows and make life on the surface and under it), in fact I always thought of the earth djinns as some kind of magical lil rodents.

What if these little guys were ONLY 4, but they can get some kind of power up in their orbs. So they can freely change when the situation calls for it. If we go with this we have their normal (Astra form) and two more variations (Luna and Sol).

I'd say it's up to the artists how many of these creatures they want to make unique. It'd be amazing to have a unique design for all 36 but I doubt they'd be too happy about it.

IMO we should split them up into each of the element and fundament combinations we decided upon, then have 3 pallete swapped (with maybe some visual changes) of the same appearance. In terms of what they are this my current ideas at least:
Sol: Earth: Golem Fire: Phoenix or Ifrit Air: Cherub Water: Yuki-onna or Yeti (Or any other icy apeman)
Stella: Based on Greek classical elementals Earth: Gnome Fire: Salamander Air: Sylph Water: Undine
Luna: Earth: Dryad or Mandrake Fire: Serpent or Death Worm Air: Raiju Water: Kappa (This one is very hard to find something for)

For the designs i really prefer animal and fairy forms, whiach for some ideas are easy to do and make people realize "oh, this came from this mythos", but when it comes to dryads and undine (who is a water dryad, when I think about it), the more fairy and "chibi cute" design we could give them, the more they are less recognizable.
We could do them with their anthropomorphic form, but then we have a kind of human like creature that we force to be our "pet". I don't like very much the idea of imprison human (and because of the mythos, woman) like creatures to our purpose, if we are making the djinn situation of "solve puzzle, defeat the djinn, now is yours".
Also, the djinn design i think that should be different to the rest of the of the monsters and have a more visual theme to follow, in order to the player to see one and instantly say to theyselves "oh, look, that's a djinn".
That being said, i'm not against the idea, so i could try to do some concept arts for undine and nymphs tomorrow (remember, GMT+1 time zone).
(Here's the moment when we do a succubus concept art to wreck the shit up of her, and everything i've said is bullshit XD)

Either way, the way we design these should be capable of being pretty expressive. Our first outing may keep things simple with the graphics we use in game, but talk of a bestiary has floated around, and there's precedent in GS for a scholar to tag along, so an Elementals guide of sorts would be a good fit, and I don't think it'd be too much trouble to implement it. It could give our artists a good excuse to have a lot of fun with these designs if they wanted to, giving the elementals more personality than sprites would really allow. If we go with a full 12, then how they're implemented mechanically would need to be reflected in-world - from the discussions I've seen so far, we seem to be leaning towards single-aspect elementals on the team itself, so it's possible that an in-world spin we have on things is that initial bonds between adepts and elementals are for like-aspect pairs, and it'd give us an excuse to have elementals that show up but aren't recruitable, perhaps being used in other ways, like rewarding items or perhaps parts of quests or something. It'd let us use our djinn analogue in ways that GS didn't - more than just mechanics, they'd be a part of the world like everything else. That's just one pitch, of course - it's an early idea I just came up with for one possible way we could implement them. Oh, and we may also want to be a tad bit careful not to steal too many ideas that could work better as straight up monsters, or perhaps propose alternates for monsters. For example, Golems in GS could be called Constructs and Stone Men if we create little crystal golem beings as capy suggested
